Dog with separation anxiety….?
I have a 1 year old Pit bull Husky mix and he always wines and barks when i’m not home. Iv been getting a lot of complaints from neighbors, they told me to get some collar that shocks them when he barks and whines but i feel that’s totally cruel.. I put toys in his crate when i leave so he has something to do but i guess it doesn’t seem to work. iv tried leaving him out of his crate but he ALWAYS finds something of mine to chew up even with LOTS of toys around the house so sadly until then hes staying in the crate. Is there anyway i can get him to stop??
i walk him for 20 minutes in the morning and an hour in the after noon and just let him out at night.. he gets plenty of walking and i take him to the dog park almost every weekend.
this is guaranteed to work. as long as you are consistent and keep at it, i promise you, that you, your dog, and your neighbors will be content.
first. make sure he gets plenty of exercise. it seems like you are doing a good job with keeping him physically stimulated, so keep that up. also teach your dog that it is not okay to chew your belongings.
your dog seems to find you and your energy very reinforcing, so when you remove yourself from the environment, it is actually a form of punishment. step one: find out what his favorite toy or treat is and give it to him before you leave. avoid being affectionate when giving him this replacement stimulus. step two: when you come home, you should not make a big fuss about it. do not punish him if he jumps or barks or comes up to you, but instead, remain neutral and basically ignore him for about thirty seconds.
take a day to practice these steps repeatedly. leave the house for two minutes, then ten minutes, then half an hour.. and so on. small steps are approximations and is a very good method of training and setting up your animal for success.
